Twenty five years ago (it was October 24, 1994), a phoenix was reborn from its ashes, one of the most spectacular phoenixes that Saxony has ever seen. His name was A. Lange & Söhne. To celebrate its resurrection as a new company, the brand introduced four watches, including a watch that would become the cornerstone of the collection, a watch of great elegance, distinction and originality. This watch was the Lange 1 and today A. Lange & Söhne celebrates its 25th anniversary with a superb edition.

The Lange 1 was quite special, with a combination of elegance and audacity, mainly due to the dial arrangement with off-center indications (design that has remained unchanged for 25 years) the hour and minute dial, a small seconds subdial, the large date and a large power reserve indicator. The idea was that none of the indications should overlap each other. And there was the famous arched signature including "Glashütte i / SA" o "I / SA" abbreviation of "In Saxony".

All the indications have been positioned according to the harmonious proportions of the golden section. The off-center hour / minute dial featured applied hour markers (Roman numerals for 12, 3, 6, and 9), the hour and minute hands were sword-shaped, and even the power reserve indicator was a sword shape, only the second hand was a fine needle.

Twenty-five years later, the watch with its unmistakable face has become an icon, a classic of haute horlogerie. Twenty five years later it is still in production, practically unchanged. Twenty-five years after its popularity it transformed the Lange 1 into the cornerstone of a watch family of nine models, available in various diameters, with manual winding and automatic winding versions, with various additional complications and in various metals.

And, of course, there are special models and limited editions, like the new one LANGE 1 EDITION 25TH ANNIVERSARY a limited edition of 250 pieces with numerous updates on the classic version. While the mechanics and general concept remain the same, this special version comes with a new combination of colors and embellishments on the movement and caseback.

First, the 25th anniversary of A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Edition features a new dial. Presented in a classic silver finish, the solid silver dial now reveals recessed matte corners and raised edges around the dials and indications - while the standard Lange 1 has a flat dial. On the other hand, the “unbalanced” display of the signature remains intact. In contrast to the silver background, indexes, logos and numbers are printed in dark blue. There are no longer applied hour markers, these have been printed directly on the dial and are read with the blued steel hands. Always in keeping with the color scheme, the large date window numbers are also blue. With this more vibrant color scheme, the watch appears less austere than the traditional white gold edition. Blue accents are paired with an alligator strap, also blue, paired with silver stitching.

The case has the traditional 38,5mm diameter of the Lange 1 and is presented in 18K white gold, but a thickness of 10,7mm, which is nearly 1mm more than the standard model (at 9,8mm) .
The reason for this significant increase can be seen on the back of the watch, which features a hinged caseback crafted from white gold. The central engraving depicts the Lange headquarters dating back to 1873, the names of Walter Lange and Günter Blümlein and a relief engraving of “25 YEARS LANGE 1”. When opened, the "dust cover" reveals the L121.1 caliber, which has been the engine of the Lange 1 since 2015, marking a significant improvement over the previous 1994 movement, again with the typical ¾ plate, this winding movement manual, specific for the Lange 1, boasts 72 hours of power reserve and includes 368 components.

The decoration is superb, as in all Lange watches and, to celebrate the uniqueness of this 25th anniversary edition, the balance wheel has a specific engraving: the “25” which symbolizes the jubilee. Finally, all the engravings are filled in blue to recall the dial.

Il LANGE 1 EDITION 25TH ANNIVERSARY (reference 191.066) will be produced in an edition of 250 copies at a price of 43.700 euros, with deliveries scheduled for January 2019.
