SIHH 2019 ended bringing with it a great result in terms of news, maybe it wasn't the best edition ever, but there were some interesting things to see, especially in the field of complications. In fact, while last year we made a ranking of the “entry-level” categories, this year our “5 top of the show” models were selected among the “high-end” models.

In fifth place in our personal ranking we find the smartest mechanical watch on the market, the RESENCE TYPE 2, the price of which is around 37.500 EURO and will be available in 2 colors: gray and anthracite.

The e-Crown technology enclosed in a 45 mm titanium case, weighing only 52 grams is located exactly between the mechanical movement and the display, does not require the watch to be wound by hand, as it generates energy using an automatic rotor , kinetic and solar energy. lightly touch the sapphire crystal of the watch to turn it on.

The watch is synchronized through an application that allows it to communicate with the smartphone and therefore does not need any adjustment. Finally, as if that were not enough, it can memorize two time zones, again through the use of the application.

In fourth place it Zeitwerk Date di A. Lange & Söhne, adding a date to such a complicated watch was actually quite challenging. It incorporates a newly developed movement, specially developed by the engineers of A. Lange & Söhne, with a clearly improved movement architecture thanks to the new L043.8 caliber which shows huge steps forward compared to previous Zeitwerk watches, above all, as regards the power reserve which in this model has been doubled, from 36 hours to 72 hours. hours (3 days). The new Zeitwerk Date by A. Lange & Söhne at the price of 91.200 will be available from June 2019.

On the lowest step of the podium we find the Vertical Tourbillon Souverain by François-Paul Journe. You may be wondering why this choice I see that the FP Journe brand is present at the show, but with the "ELEGANT" line: Simply because every year during the days of the salon monsieur François-Paul amazes customers and enthusiasts with his creations and, we of Perpetual Passion, we could not fail to mention it. This vertical tourbillon with dead seconds completes a revolution in 30 seconds, a rotation faster than the usual revolution of one minute, in order to better visualize its technical skills. The watch, with a 42 mm case, will be available in platinum or 18k 6N gold, priced at 235.000 and 226.000 EURO respectively.

Silver medal for probably the most complicated watch presented at the show. The model everyone is talking about! The Master Grande Tradition Gyrotourbillon Westminster Perpétuel by Jaeger-LeCoultre, features a Gyrotourbillon, a perpetual calendar and a minute repeater that mimics the Big Ben chime system. Despite all these complications, the watch measures only 43 mm in diameter and is just a little thicker than 14 mm, making it surprisingly comfortable to wear, again for those who can afford it given its price of 800.000 EURO.

Our winner is, without a doubt, the Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Twin Beat Perpetual, super smart and truly innovative watch capable of solving one of the main problems of a perpetual calendar, in a mechanically impressive way.

The solution found by Vacheron for its perpetual calendar Twin beat is to have two regulating bodies and two “work” modes. When worn, the watch operates on a frequency of 5 Hz with 4 days of power reserve, but, once set, if you wish to store it in a safe, pressing the button at 8 o'clock activates the "standby mode" which it switches the regulating organ, operating on a frequency as low as 1.2 Hz, thus allowing for an astounding 65-day power reserve.

With a very reasonable size, given the platinum case measuring only 42mm and modern execution, this superb timepiece will be available in just 5 pieces per year at a price of 210.000 EUR.
