Among the novelties in Basel, I was impressed by the new DEFY El Primero 21, a chronograph that skilfully combines technique, high performance and aesthetics. Zenith has created a futuristic chronograph, equipped with a movement that, by name alone, evokes great emotions in enthusiasts. After all, how could it be otherwise?

The design of the DEFY El Primero 21 Carbon is characterized by a combination of straight lines and angles that define the carbon fiber case. The alternation of layers of carbon fibers arranged in a random way makes each case produced a unique piece. This version also the chronograph pushers and the crown were made of carbon.
The result is a captivating and elegant watch at the same time. Despite its gritty character, it can also be worn on more formal occasions.

We now come to the heart of the watch: the El Primero caliber 9004. For the first time, the revolutionary 1/100 second chronograph movement, which operates at a speed of 50 Hz (360.000 vibrations per hour), has been subjected to a deep black treatment, which makes the luminous contours of the skeletonized movement glow in the dark.
The hour, minute and small seconds hands, as well as the indices of the open dial, are faceted and coated in dark ruthenium with black SuperLuminova.

The central seconds hand of the 1/100 second chronograph and the hands of the 60-second and 30-minute counters are burnished with bright red colored tips. At 12 o'clock we find the indication of the chronograph power reserve.
To complete the ergonomics of the DEFY El Primero 21 Carbon, you can choose between two straps: a structured black rubber strap and a special Carbon-effect rubber strap.
The new DEFY El Primero 21 Carbon is the natural evolution of the historic Zenith El Primero. A contemporary timepiece that looks to the future, with no compromise between technique and style.
