Before electricity, alarm clocks were designed to strike the hours in the dark and are the embodiment of a true dream. Since 1980, under the leadership of Rolf Schnyder, Ulysse Nardin was the first watch company to bring these timepieces back to life. 

The engineers of Devialet, experts in weathering phenomena, have collaborated side by side with the watchmakers of Ulysse Nardin specialized in sound to redefine every step in the audio system signal sent by Ulysse Nardin's strike mechanism to achieve the best performance ever recorded in a watch with a strike mechanism, from 85 dB up to 100 mm. 

With a classic chime system, a hammer strikes a timbre generating sound frequencies, which when emitted, beat time on command. In the' Hourstriker Phantom, the hammer of the stamp is fixed by a system of torsion arms that change the direction of the forces of action induced by the vibration of the stamp. In a classical system, the forces produced are mainly in the movement of the watch which generates a small amount of air which is then dispersed by the various components of the watch. 

In ' Hourstriker Phantom, the forces of action created by the stamp find the way and the way to escape from the watch itself. These forces are forcefully transmitted using a transmission arm to a fine diaphragm, which is located at the bottom of the watch. Since the membrane has an extended surface, a high amount of air is released, resulting in a high level sound. It can be compared to a megaphone with its cone and membrane.

The bottom of the watch is perforated by eight openings under its membrane allowing the sound to travel and which contains the in-house automatic movement. A-610. The dial is adorned with satin anthracite inspired by the figures of Cold, formed by the materialization of vibratory waves, a reference to the protective net of Phantom Devialet  positioned above the speaker. Hidden beneath this lace-like mesh, tinted glass obscures the movement of the watch for an ultra-contemporary look. A small but original detail are the “rose gold” colored hands that indicate the indexes with Arabic numerals, tilted outwards, in a clockwise direction, just like a navy compass. At 3 o'clock, a small slot in rose gold disappears and reappears depending on whether you want to activate or deactivate the chime mechanism (with the ON / OFF button).

At an announced price of CHF 72,500, the Hourstriker Phantom has become the most affordable alarm clock on the market. The model stands out thanks to a black alligator strap and will be sold in a limited edition of 85 pieces, evoking the 85 decibels it majestically reaches.
