Today marks the 145th anniversary of the birth of Winston Churchill, one of the hallmark figures of the 20th century, best remembered for his inspirational speeches and for leading Britain to victory in World War II. As lovers of the hands, we want to remember the important British statesman with an interesting anecdote.

in 1947 Hans wilsdorf decided to donate the officially certified 100.000th Rolex Chronometer in gratitude to the then former British Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill, considered by the founder of the crowned house as "One of the greatest personalities of modern times".

The watch was a Oyster Perpetual Datejust, in 18 kt rose gold. with fluted bezel, white dial and Jubilee bracelet. Launched in 1945, the Rolex Datejust was Rolex's flagship model. A concentrate of all the savoir faire of the Geneva maison.

Winston Churchill gladly accepted the kind gift of Rolex and in the letter of acceptance, Churchill asked that his emblem be engraved on the back of the Rolex Datejust in rose gold.
The watch was delivered to the British politician on 4 September 1948. In the letter signed by his secretary and addressed to Mr. Wildsorf, Sir Winston Churchill defined the watch as "a continuous pleasure, works admirably".
