Hublot has revisited its famous in-house caliber Meca-10, equipped with a 10-day power reserve, to combine it with the barrel design of its emblematic collection Spirit of Big Bang 45 mm. From this meeting the new was born Spirit of Big Bang Meca-10, available in three versions (in titanium, in black ceramic and in the exclusive gold alloy King Gold) and combined with that rubber strap made famous by Hublot, the first brand to combine it with the splendor of gold.
If it is definitely imposed for its "Art of Fusion"Of innovative materials, or of tradition and avant-garde, Hublot it is also distinguished by its search for a perfect osmosis between cases and movements, a need even more felt due to the fact that its mechanical motors are almost always visible from the transparent dials.
Wanting to match the in-house caliber designed for a round case HUB1201 Mecha-10 (a movement that has already enjoyed enormous success in numerous Big Bang models) to the "barrel" design of the Spirit of Big Bang (a booming line among the Maison's collections), Hublot certainly had no intention of settling for a few readjusted details. In the spirit of the great watchmaking art, where a "barrel" case must necessarily contain a caliber of corresponding shape, the engineers were asked to review the entire architecture of the movement so that it would occupy the new space available more effectively from the point from a technical point of view. And in the most harmonious way possible from an aesthetic point of view.
The new caliber HUB1233 maintains the basic principles of the hand-wound skeletonized in-house movement Meca-10, with the double barrel in parallel and the exceptional power reserve of 10 days, shown in an unprecedented way. At 12 o'clock, the two dentures slide on an axis ranging from 9 to 3 on an innovative rack and pinion system, while an opening at 3 reveals the number of days remaining in the power reserve. A visualization that is both pleasant and very effective.
Another technical and aesthetic detail, also taken up by the round movement: instead of the usual plate there are bridges arranged in length and fixed on both sides by a ring that acts as a basis for the movement. A very original architecture, reminiscent of the perforated "joists" of construction games. Thanks to a skilful skeletonization of the components, the heart of the mechanics can be seen directly, with an impressive depth effect, whether it is observed from the dial side or through the transparent caseback.
The technical aspect of the whole is highlighted by the contrast between the raw steel pieces with satin or polished finishes and those finished in black. The central hour and minute display is complemented by a seconds hand positioned at 9 o'clock, alongside the balance wheel and hairspring that beats time with precision. Thanks to the 10-day power reserve, Hublot was able to design this manually-wound mechanism, to the delight of those who like to be at one with their watch and periodically give it back momentum and energy.
With its six titanium shaped screws H that cross the bezel, the "ears" on either side of the dial, the clearly legible hands and stick indexes, highlighted by a luminescent coating, the imposing crown that simplifies manual winding and the beveled attachments of the strap, the Spirit of Big Bang Meca-10 it combines in a "barrel" shape all the original codes of the famous Big Bang, the clock icon Hublot.
Even the construction of the case unequivocally declares its lineage and its identity, using the clever principle of the "sandwich" which allows infinite variations and combinations of materials.
This brand new watch, fresh out of the manufacture's workshop, is available in three highly distinctive versions. The first is in King Gold 18 karat (price 43.500 EURO), an exclusive alloy of gold and platinum, which offers a new shade of red gold; the power of its design is further increased by the alternation of micro-blasted, satin-finished and polished finishes and by the engravings that mark the bezel. The second version honors the black high-tech ceramic (price 26.900 EURO), a futuristic material that Hublot masters in an exemplary way, while the third wears a grade 5 titanium (price 22.700 EURO), ultra-strong and ultra-light. The striped structured rubber strap with folding clasp offers optimum strength and is extremely comfortable on the wrist.
