In addition to the brand new range Chronomat completely redesigned, permanent to the catalog, Breitling also presents the "capsule collection”And, although the watches are not numbered, they will be produced for a limited time. Inspired by a well-known 50s diving watch, the superocean of 1957.
While there is no doubt that the design of this watch refers to a modern piece, the Breitling Superocean Heritage '57 it is, as its name suggests, inspired by a vintage model and those familiar with historical pieces Breitling will surely have noticed the similarity with the superocean from the late 50s, a diver's watch produced by the brand that stands out for its concave bezel and its specific indexes.
Based on this historic design, today the brand modernizes it and creates a so-called collection Capsule, a concept usually found in fashion but now applied to watchmaking, implying that the watches will be produced for a limited period of time and not, as is often the case, limited edition.
The case of this Superocean Heritage '57 it would appear to be identical in shape to the original model, but show modern execution and dimensions. Entirely polished and with thin and elongated fins, it measures 42 mm in diameter. The timepiece is not a diver's watch itself, with its 100m water resistance, but more of a casual and versatile piece. To highlight all this, the crown is not screwed down and the bezel is bidirectional. The latter, just like the model from the late 50s, is oversized, much larger than the case and has a concave bowl-shaped profile, reminiscent of domed sapphire crystal. The insert is made of glossy ceramic, available in black or blue.
The capsule collection Breitling Superocean Heritage '57 includes three different models with different colors and materials. Two stainless steel models were presented yesterday, with a black or blue color scheme, dial and bezel. A third edition will then be available, with a two-tone case combining steel and 18K red gold, presented with a black dial with golden indexes and hands and a black bezel. Each version is available on a vintage-inspired calfskin strap with pin or folding clasp or with an integrated bracelet "mesh”In stainless steel Ocean Classic with butterfly clasp.
The dial is also inspired by the vintage edition and takes advantage of the unique shape of the indexes and hands, which combined with the bowl-shaped bezel, give the watch a great personality. All elements are filled with Super-LumiNova white and Breitling opted for an undated display. The engine that beats within this Superocean Heritage '57 is a proven outsourcing movement, the 10 caliber, a certified version chronometer of the Sellita SW 300-1. This automatic movement, hidden under a solid steel caseback, beats at 4Hz and boasts 42 hours of power reserve.
