On the occasion of the brand new Watch&Wonders format held exclusively digitally due to the restrictions caused by COVID-19, IWC has wanted to completely renew the range of its perhaps most famous model, the Porugieser or Portuguese you want, proposing new versions and complications.
At the base of the new collection there are 5 in-house calibers, the introduction of which has allowed to provide customers with an 8-year warranty extension with the simple registration of the watch on the IWC website:
- Caliber 69: automatic with chronographic function and column wheel used for the iconic Portuguese
- Caliber 89: automatic with flyback function used for "Yacht Club" models
- Calibre 59:manual with monopulsive chronographic function.
- Caliber 82: automatic movement. It oscillates at 4Hz and features the charging system introduced by Pellaton.
- Calibre 52:automatic and with a power reserve of 7 days.
Below you can find all the news presented.
Portugieser Automatic 40 (Ref. IW5007)
It is a totally new model both for case size (40 mm) and for adopted caliber (new in-house calibre 82). The aesthetics is based on the very first Portuguese 325 of 1939 and has a very clean and simple layout, with the second at 6 o'm in addition to the indication of hours and minutes.
It introduces a new closure born specifically for this model in order to have high comfort even on the slender wrists. The versions available are three in steel and one in gold with sales prices ranging from 7,250 € to 17,000 €.
The portugieser's most classic 6-hour and 12-hour second-minute counter is renewed by making tiny changes to the iconic dial (such as the adoption of the new IWC logo introduced in 2013) and mounting the new IWC-made calibre 69. The available versions are numerous and alternate between steel and rose gold with different combinations of dials available. I point out the presence of the brand new burgundy and green dials mounted on a steel case.
Portugieser Yacht Club (REF. IW3907)
The third generation of Yacht Clubs is presented to the general public and sees the introduction of numerous novelties. In the most classic models, we find a new integrated bracelet with glossy and satin meshes with an adjustable closure of 5 mm, a 42 mm case and a redesigned dial. The movement that animates this watch is the automatic caliber 89 with flyback chronogarfo (hour counter combined with that of minutes at 12 o'clock and seconds at 6 o'clock), date and 68 hours of power reserve. The available versions are 3 of which two are made of steel and one in combination steel-rose gold sold for 13,000€ and 19,700 € respectively.
The great novelty for this collection is represented by an unprecedented rose gold model with indication of the double moon phases (classic of IWC) combined with that for the sigitial and quadrature tides, as well as the high and low tide at 6 o'm. It is a real navigation tool and it is no coincidence that it is part of the Yacht Club collection. The caliber adopted is the caliber 82, always automatic and in-house, and belongs to the new generation of movements that IWC has introduced while the case is 44.6 mm in 5N rose gold. The sale price is €35,600.
Portugieser Perpetual Calendar 42
The Portugieser perpetual calendar of 42 mm of case is another totally new watch. The perpetual calendar module is added to the new calibre 82 to get the day of the week, date, and months displayed with moon phases at 9, 3, and 6 o'6 o's, respectively. Inside the counter of the day of the week there is then a small hole that allows you to show whether we are in a leap year or not. The sales prices are 22,700 € for steel and 32,800 € for the 5N gold counterpart.
Portugieser Perpetual Calendar 44 (Ref. IW 3442)
The iconic perpetual calendar with a 44 mm case is presented in a new look reserved for boutiques only. Armor Gold's watch case is paired with an intense blue dial with a single moon view of the moon phases. The calibre 52 adopted has the advantage of having all functions synchronized and adjusted with the charging crown only without the need for any concealer and the sale price is 38,200 €.
The entire collection could not miss the pieces of haute horlogerie with tourbillon. There are two models that belong to this category and we can find a version of the perpetual calendar from 44 mm with tourbillon at 12 o'm and moon phases moved at 6 o's, and a flyback chronograph with tourbillon at 6 o's, chronograph with hours and minutes at 12 o'm and retrograde date at 9 o'0.
Both models are available in Armor Gold with blue and platinum dial with silver dial but are limited to 50 pieces per version. Sales prices start at €120,000.
The Porugieser collection has been completely renovated and I am sure you can find the model that best matches your tastes.
