I have to admit, despite the past seasons, this year I have not followed a MotoGP race. Either because of an anomalous calendar due to Covid-19, apparently staggered, or because as a Valentino fan - I admit - I feel bad about seeing him less and less competitive. Anyway, this weekend I stumbled upon the post-race highlights of the Austrian GP. Race marked in particular by the terrible accident involving Zarko and Morbidelli, which could have involved 'Doctor' Rossi with dramatic consequences.
In the various pre and post-race interviews, I couldn't help but notice which watch Valentino wore on his wrist. We at Perpetual Passion we have already dedicated an article on Valentino's watches, mostly spotted wearing ROLEX sports, except for those who sponsor or have sponsored the Yamaha team, see Suunto, or the edition dedicated to him by Jaeger LeCoultre.
You will understand my amazement to see him wear a OMEGA Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon “Pitch Black”, in black ceramic.
Presented by OMEGA in 2015, the Dark Side of the Moon “Pitch Black” is inspired by the astronauts of the Apollo 8 mission. This model in particular is a tribute to the mystical halo of Earth's night light and its ever-changing but constant presence. 44,25mm case, this watch plays with the details given by the use of Super-LumiNova on the matte black ceramic bezel and indexes of the dial.
The “Pitch Black” features a black leather strap with ecru stitching accompanied by a ceramic folding clasp. The case houses the OMEGA Co-Axial caliber 9300.
