Guest of this episode Marcello De Marco - Watch Specialist for the renowned Phillips auction house in Association with Bacs & Russo. Matteo and Vittorio spoke with Marcello about the results of the auctions staged this weekend: The Geneva Watch Auction XII and Retrospetive 2000 - 2020.
Marcello De Marco is first of all a great enthusiast. Passion that over the years has led him to collaborate for the watches department of Christie's and, after a few years, follow your mentor Aurel Bacs at Phillips as Watch Specialist and Business Development Associate.
Despite a heavily armored Geneva due to lockdown, due to the surge in coronavirus infections, however Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo, the one just ended was another successful weekend. The Geneva Watch Auction XIII has made over 25 Million CHF, going slightly beyond the expectations of the auction house itself, and reaching the important milestone of the most expensive watch ever sold to an online bidder, with the Patek Philippe World Time 2523/1.
While the "White Glove" RETROSPECTIVE: 2000 - 2020 has reached the milestone of 100% of the lots sold, led by Philippe Dufour Simplicity 20th Anniversary in rose gold for 1.3 Million CHF!
Net of these results, together with Marcello we talked about some of the lots that aroused more curiosity in us such as the A. Lange & Söhne (lot. 118) of 1950 with 40mm chrome case, an incredibly rare wristwatch, one of the last made under the brand name before it disappeared. Not to mention the Patek Philippe (lot 70) ref. 96, from 1937 sector dial, applied Arabic numerals and the rare signature of the dealer “Eberhard - Milan” sold for 378 thousand CHF !!
