On June 16th one of the most fascinating events in the world of four wheels is renewed, we are talking about the 1000 Miglia. This legendary race, now in its 39th edition since its rebirth, sees as protagonists historic dream cars, will unfold on a 1.600 km ring route that crosses San Marino, Rome, Siena and Florence.

To celebrate this year's edition, Chopard - Official Partner of the event since 1988 - presented the new Mille Miglia 2021 Race Edition chronographs. The elegant timepiece with "Chronometer" certified precision movement, available in a limited edition of 1.000 pieces in stainless steel or in a two-tone version of 250 pieces in stainless steel and ethical 18-karat rose gold, reflects Chopard's unalterable passion for motorsports.

The first edition of the 1000 Miglia dates back to 1927 and was organized on the initiative of a group of motoring enthusiasts from Brescia who thus responded to the transfer of the Italian Grand Prix to the city of Monza. The course of the 2021 edition will be a tribute to the original race and, for the first time since the competition was reborn in 1977, the course will run counterclockwise. About 400 cars will head from Brescia to the Tyrrhenian coast, with a stop in Viareggio, before touching Rome, the Apennines and Bologna.

Both declensions - thelimited edition of 1.000 in steel stainless steel and that of 250 pieces in stainless steel and 18-karat ethical gold - house a movement with a COSC chronometry certificate, a guarantee of precision that is very dear to Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, Co-President of Chopard. The stainless steel case is 44mm in diameter is a mix of contemporary style and vintage elements.

The stainless steel or ethical 18K rose gold bezel with a black ceramic inlay is inspired by the meters and gauges of classic cars. A checkered flag, the 1000 Miglia arrow logo and the words “Brescia> Rome> Brescia” are engraved on the caseback to remember the indissoluble link between the watch collection and the race.

The gray dial, obtained by galvanic treatment on a brass base, is embellished with a circular satin finish made by specialized craftsmen. The famous red arrow that symbolizes the 1000 Miglia points to the semi-instantaneous indication of the date that can be read through the magnifying glass. The hands and indexes are coated with Super-LumiNova® to ensure readability of the indications day and night, a key feature when racing to win.

The central second hand and the hands of the 30-minute counter at 12 o'clock and the red-tipped hour counter at 6 o'clock make it easy to read the chronograph indications. Preserving the harmonious proportions of the dial, the small seconds are read at 9 o'clock and the date window is positioned at 3 o'clock. The tachymeter scale on the bezel, in glossy black ceramic with white lacquered elements, is the perfect tool to help competitors in the calculation of the average speed during the 1000 Miglia.

The perforated calfskin strap reminiscent of traditional racing gloves is punctuated with tone-on-tone red or black stitching, and rubber-lined with a pattern inspired by 1960s Dunlop racing tires, referencing automotive history entered the Mille Miglia collection for the first time in 2018. With its clasp leaflet In polished and brushed stainless steel, the strap is an integral part of the classy aesthetics of the Mille Miglia 2021 Race Edition watch.

Before the start of the race, each crew is honored with a unique and numbered edition of the watch.
