Original in name and form. Few timepieces have been as influential and iconic as the Zenith A386, unveiled in 1969 as one of the first steel watches to feature the revolutionary El Primero caliber, the very first integrated high-frequency automatic chronograph movement. More than 50 years later, El Primero sets a new standard of precision among automatic chronograph movements, giving way to new versions in a constant evolution of technique and performance. Over the years, Zenith has paid homage to many of its historic models, including the gold versions of the A386 in the Chronomaster Revival collection unveiled on the occasion of El Primero's 50th anniversary.

Collectors and enthusiasts of Zenith chronographs were therefore eagerly awaiting a steel reissue in the Zenith permanent collection. With Chronomaster Original, Zenith not only offers a modern reinterpretation of a classic chronograph, but also takes it a step further: it retains the timeless and emblematic design of the A386, while delivering the performance of a 21st century El Primero model, with precision and a time measurement to 1 / 10th of a second. At first glance, the Chronomaster Original and the A386 that inspired it look almost identical. The round 38 mm steel case without bezel with domed and embossed glass, the pump pushers, the faceted lugs and the mix of radial surfaces with brushed and polished finishes are almost indistinguishable between the old and the new models. The steel bracelet has been revisited, replacing the open "staircase" design of the 60s with solid links that are sumptuously beveled and decorated like the case.

In the A386, the most aesthetically distinctive design element is undoubtedly its dial. The emblematic tricolor counters in shades of gray and blue, the trapezoidal date window at 4:30 and the red second hand, are all traditional motifs of the Zenith aesthetic. The Chronomaster Original inherits all of these components with some adjustments that aim to improve its performance. The black inner bezel surrounding the A386 dial, once used to calculate working time thanks to a 1/100 hour measurement system, now finds a new function in this Chronomaster Original: the new chronograph hand with a reading accuracy of 1 / 10th of a second, it performs a complete revolution of the dial within 10 seconds, for a total of 100 measurable time units. On the outer circumference of the dial, a chronometric scale with a reading accuracy of 1 / 10th of a second takes the place of the tachymeter scale, allowing extremely precise time measurements.

For an instant and accurate reading to the tenth of a second, the flat seconds hand of the original A386 model has been replaced with a red lacquered pointed hand. The Zenith logo has also been revisited in a more contemporary way. The Chronomaster Original is the fruit of 50 years of constant refinements and genuine craftsmanship of the high-frequency automatic chronograph movement.

This timepiece is equipped with the new version of the El Primero caliber, the El Primero 3600. With a high frequency of 5 Hz (36.000 A / hour), the movement is capable of offering an accuracy to 1 / 10th of a second. Autonomy has been made more efficient, with a power reserve increased by 60 hours. Visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, the new structure features a more elegant, open design and reveals a blue column wheel and open rotor featuring Zenith's five-pointed star. In addition to the steel model with a three-color dial, the Chronomaster Original is available in two other versions: one with a steel case, black "reverse panda" dial and silver chronograph counters, and the other in 18-karat rose gold with a dial. in three colors.

True icons are meant to last. The Chronomaster Original not only harbors the legacy of the A386, one of the most important chronograph wristwatches ever made, but sets a new standard of performance thanks to the Zenith Manufacture's constant pursuit of precision. The collection is now available at Zenith boutiques, on the e-commerce platform and at authorized retailers around the world.
