For this 2023 edition of Watches & Wonders, Rolex unveils a new watch, the Perpetual 1908. Unlike the brand's more sporty Professional watches, this new model is elegant, classic and contemporary. The Perpetual 1908 incorporates the historical codes of the brand as well as its multiple watchmaking innovations, this model marks the beginning of a new chapter in the pursuit of excellence carried out by Rolex. Its design and construction highlight all the know-how that the Brand masters internally.

Inspired by a 1931 Oyster Perpetual, this entirely new timepiece overcomes the challenge of offering a slimmer profile in line with the brand's canons and inaugurates the Perpetual collection, which revisits watchmaking tradition through the lens of Rolex and its pioneering spirit. The name "1908" is a reference to the year of the official filing of the brand in Switzerland.

The case, in 18 ct yellow or white gold, is particularly slim and features a transparent case back which allows you to appreciate the quality of the movement's finishes. With the numbers 3, 9 and 12 and the small seconds hand at 6 o'clock, the 1908 revisits the style of a 1931 Oyster Perpetual in a markedly modern key.

To animate the 1908, the Rolex experts developed the caliber 7140, a completely new self-winding movement with two central hands and small seconds at 6 o'clock. The development of this slim calibre, entirely designed and manufactured by the brand, led to the filing of five patent applications.

Fitted with a Syloxi hairspring, Chronergy escapement and Paraflex shock-absorber, it guarantees a power reserve of approximately 66 hours and offers exceptional chronometric performance (–2/+2 seconds per day).

In order to make the timepiece thinner, Rolex teams have worked to reduce the thickness of the case by a third compared to watches in the Oyster Perpetual collection, without sacrificing movement performance in any way. Indeed, the caliber was designed to meet the strict criteria of the Superlative Chronometer certification in terms of precision and reliability. Reducing the thickness of the case has implied the development of innovative technical solutions – for example to ensure perfect assembly of the regulating organ.

Crafted in 18k yellow or white gold, the new Dualclasp offers greater comfort by adapting to the shape of the wrist. Consisting of two symmetrical folding plates, it allows the opening mechanism to be operated effortlessly and at the same time ensures optimal closure of the alligator leather strap.
