The new Pilot collection by ZENITH abandons the vintage aesthetic to draw inspiration from the entire universe of aviation, past and present. It embodies all the essential characteristics of durability, readability and intuitiveness, while respecting the codes of the Pilot models that ZENITH broadly defined over a century ago with some of the first pilot's watches and on-board instruments, now revisited in a contemporary key.
Il Pilot automatic it is driven by the high-frequency automatic manufacture movement Primero 3620, visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, which guarantees a power reserve of 60 hoursif fully charged. The open black oscillating weight of the winding mechanism recalls the artificial horizon, an on-board instrument which indicates to the pilots the orientation of the aircraft with respect to the earth's horizon.
Reimagine the aesthetic codes of the collection with a spectacular silhouette full of unique details. With box from 40 mm in stainless steel or black ceramic, Pilot automatic features a completely new design with a flat round bezel set above the rounded case. In the steel version, the surfaces have a vertical satin finish and glossy bevels, while the black ceramic one is entirely micro-sandblasted, for an elegant matt finish. The oversized crown, a distinctive feature of the Pilot models, takes on a more modern and angled shape, while remaining easy to handle, even with gloves.
The dial black opal with horizontal grooves it recalls the corrugated metal plates that made up the fuselage of many vintage aircraft. The oversized luminescent Arabic numerals, a symbol of Pilot's watches and on-board instruments ZENITH since the beginning of the XNUMXth century, they have a more modern font and are applied as metal indexes treated with Super-LumiNova white. At 6 o'clock, above the date, the luminescent hour marker is a white line that recalls the artificial horizon of aircraft. On the watch, it allows the wearer to understand its orientation at first glance, easily reading the time. The dial features the inscription “Pilot”, as ZENITH is the only brand that owns the rights to do so.
Pilot Big Date Flyback
The collection Pilot by ZENITH would not be complete without a chronograph reference. The Maison has therefore gone one step further by developing a version of the calibre Primero 3600 with a new feature specially designed for Pilot.
Pilot Big Date Flyback is available in two options, both with a case size 42,5 mm. The stainless steel version is inspired by one of the most distinctive El Primero Flyback chronographs, aptly named “Rainbow Flyback”. The chronograph minutes alternate colors to better distinguish the five-minute markers. The central chronograph seconds and minute hands feature a vibrant hue orangeand, further reference to the iconic El Primero Rainbow from 1997.
The version in black ceramic It features a functional achromatic look with luminescent white hands and hour markers that create a stark contrast to the black opaline textured dial. In terms of performance, the new chronograph caliber automatic high frequency Primero 3652 integrates two chronograph functions a 5 Hz, perfect for Pilot: Big Dates e fly-back. In addition to easy readability, the oversized date window of Pilot Big Date Flyback features a patented next-generation mechanism that animates and stabilizes both discs in less than 0,03 seconds.
Originally designed for aviators, who wore thick leather gloves, the Flyback function allows the chronograph to be reset and restarted simply by pressing a button, to facilitate the pilot's actions and offer the possibility to record consecutive times without stopping. The El Primero chronograph caliber with the “artificial horizon” rotor is visible through the transparent case back.
