In 1968, the Apollo 8 crew wrote a milestone in history by becoming the first to orbit the Moon in flight. Every astronaut on this pioneering mission wore an OMEGA Speedmaster on your wrist, a trusted tool during NASA's lunar campaign. This year, OMEGA pays homage to this extraordinary page of history with the new Speedmaster Dark Side Of The Moon, the result of exceptional watchmaking craftsmanship, cutting-edge technology and the use of high-quality materials.

The first Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8 was presented in 2018, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the mission. This year, OMEGA offers a new watch in which the original design is elevated to a higher level of sophistication with meticulous attention to detail.

The Caliber 3869 that powers the watch features a relief of the lunar surface obtained through laser ablation on blackened bridges and main plate. Just like the Moon, the movement reveals two different sides: the dial shows the lunar surface from Earth's perspective, while the caseback reveals the dark side of the Moon admired only by astronauts.

Furthermore, the manually wound Caliber 3869 is Co-Axial Master Chronometer certified, guaranteeing the highest standards of precision, chronometric performance and magnetic resistance. The moon-themed movement is visible through the black anodized aluminum skeletonized dial.

The 44,25mm case, caseback and polished bezel are crafted from distinct pieces of black ceramic, enhanced by the bright white “Grand Feu” enamel tachymeter scale. The central chronograph seconds hand is lacquered yellow, a color that also extends to the perforated black rubber strap with yellow interior.

An innovative element is the small seconds hand at 9 o'clock, inspired by NASA's "Saturn V" rocket, made of grade 5 titanium with a 3D structure obtained by laser and colors obtained with white lacquering, ablation and blackening by laser. This symbolic detail celebrates the success of the Apollo space program.

The case back features significant engravings, including the iconic phrase “WE'LL SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE”, the last words spoken by Command Module pilot Jim Lovell before venturing into the dark side of the Moon for the first time in history.
