THE OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch makes its return in a new edition, featuring a white lacquered dial, inspired by the collection's epic space explorations and rich heritage.

Fans of this extraordinary model have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new version since November 2023, when it was first spotted on the wrist of Ambassador Daniel Craig during the Planet OMEGA exhibition in New York. Today, the model is officially launched and ready to be acquired by the public.

The distinctive feature of this watch lies in the choice of an unusual white dial. In conceiving it Speedmaster original in 1957, OMEGA's designers aimed to create a legible and reliable dial. They opted for white hands and indexes to contrast with the black dial. For this new edition, the same idea was pursued with inverted colours: a white dial with applied indexes and black details, while the writing Speedmaster is emphasized in red, all with a glossy lacquer finish, a completely innovative technique for the “step” dial of the Moonwatch.

The choice of white is not random; it draws inspiration from the colors of astronauts' spacesuits, particularly during extravehicular activities (EVA), such as spacewalks. An authentic bond with tradition, given that it Speedmaster Moonwatch It has been NASA's official astronaut watch since 1965, becoming the first watch worn on the Moon. Since 1970, red stripes on suits indicate the commander's rank.

But white was also chosen for another reason: in 1969, OMEGA created the ALASKA I prototype, part of a secret NASA project to create the perfect space watch. After experimentation, a white dial was chosen for its effective thermal reflection coefficient. The red in the writing Speedmaster of the new model is a tribute to the red protective case of the ALASKA I watch.

The 42mm stainless steel case is paired with a vintage design stainless steel bracelet with five curved links per row. Two further versions are also available: one with a micro-perforated black leather strap and white stitching; the other with an antibacterial rubber strap and a positive embossed pattern inspired by the lunar surface.

Dedicated to fans of Moonwatch, the black anodized aluminum bezel features the famous “Dot over 90” on the tachymeter scale. The watch is powered by the Co-Axial Master Chronometer caliber 3861, an evolution of the legendary Caliber 321 that accompanied astronauts to the Moon.
